''Some individuals may perceive their losing fight with gravity as a sharp pain in their back, others as the unflattering contour of their body, others as constant fatigue, yet others as an unrelentingly threatening environment. Those over forty may call it old age. And yet all these signals may be pointing to a single problem so prominent in their own structure, as well as others, that it has been ignored: they are off balance, they are at war with gravity.'
Ida P. Rolf, Ph.D.

4- Ways I Work With Clients:

1. Short-term Fix It -- Acute

I will work with clients preseting with a specific 'problem' and thus I will gear my approach and work locally or regionally. Through a structural approach I will work to change local anatomy and release immediately held tissues and related areas. My aim is localI will work with clients presenting with a specific ‘problem’ and thus I will gear my approach and locally or regionally. Through a structural approach I will work to change local anatomy and release immediately held tissues and related areas. My aim is local but the affect is global.

2. Medium-term, chronic problems or Transformative -- Structural Integration (Rolfing):

My preference in working with clients is to bring them through the 10 sessions of Structural Integration as designed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf well over 60 yr's ago. This series of 10 sessions is a 'holistic' approach in dealing with the chronic, persistent or long term held strain patterns entrenched in the body compared to the typical 'symptom' approach with most forms of healing in the West. Unlike the 'short term' approach this series is designed to work progressively with the whole-body and nervous system. This approach to your body re- builds the necessary support in so that changes made to your structure will have long lasting change versus clients common experience with other therapies of simply moving or pushing the strain to another part of the body (ie the initial complaint gets better only to have some other area of the body show signs of symptoms). In the Structural Integration series (generically referred to as rolfing) my aim is to improve the STRUCTURAL and FUNCTIONAL abilities of the human body in its relationship to the gravitational field. CORE Structural Integration constitutes a 10-session system of progressively deeper myofascial treatments that structurally improves all myo-fascial layers (to learn more about fascia click here) and extrinsic and intrinsic musculature. The 10 sessions focus on establishing an integrated structure, balancing the intrinsic spiral in the body, releasing chronic myofascial tension, improving movement patterns, and increasing self-reliance through heightened neurosomatic awareness. Each of the 10 sessions focuses on a specific region of the body, progressively working into deeper and more specific layers of the myofascial network. Athletes, dancers, and performance artists throughout the world have successfully utilized CORE Structural Bodywork. Business and professional leaders have found that the beneficial results have improved their focus and attention, vitality, and creative abilities. Athletes perform better, while stress is significantly reduced. CORE Structural Bodywork can signfinificantly balance the emotional and cognitive abilities of anyone who completes the 10 session series.

3. Maintenance - Preventive – Wellness Sessions.

This involves steady, ongoing work spread out over time. Regularly spaced sessions help maintain body resilience and compensates for postural patterns, pre-existing problems, chronic stress and aging. Benefits include enhanced alignment, improved awareness, greater flexibility, balance, and ease of movement.Clients will often use these style of sessions following the Structural Integration series to continue to support and furthe the process of structural/transformative change.

4. Sports Performance Enhancement:

My focus is with your specific interests and activities. Through a structural and functional approach I work to improve flexibility, vitality, energy, structural alignment, balance, movement, etc. We will discuss the specific demands of your sport or activity and use the theories and techniques of Structural Integration and adapt them to your unique sport to enable you to work at a heightened level of performance not obtainable through other modalities. This could be increasing a runners stride length or ability for greater oxygen uptake, enabling a piano player to ‘reach’ one further key, identifying areas of strain in the body early before this manifests into a potential problem hampering and athletes ability to compete at the highest potential possible. I have used this approach succesfully with professional runners, cyclists, tri-athaletes, body-builders, gymnasts, Boston Blazers, weekend warrior's etc. CORE Myofascial Therapy was used as the premier treatment for the British Olympic Team at their 1995 and 1996 Olympic Training Camps held at Florida State University. CORE Bodywork is also the only deep muscle therapy in use by the massage therapy staff at the elite Peaks Resort and Spa in Telluride, Colorado. Active professionals, elite athletes, and anyone wishing to achieve a higher level of mental and physical performance will benefit from this style of deep bodywork.
